What’s in the download

It’s a worksheet, not a miracle. It won’t fix your conversion rate. It will tell you where to look first.

The worksheet

Forty checks, scored 0 to 2

A 22-page fillable PDF. Each check says where to look, and has room for the evidence behind your score. No evidence, no score.

The scorecard

Your scores, added up for you

Enter the scores once. The workbook rolls them into stage scores out of 10, marks each stage Leaking, Patchy or Sound, and ranks the fixes.

The Leak Map

A dollar value on the gap

Compare your best and worst segments and see what the gap costs you, so you know which leak to fix first.

Eight stages, from the numbers to the click

Stage 0 comes first for a reason. If you can’t trust the measurement, nothing after it means much.

  1. MeasurementStage 0
  2. Traffic and message matchStage 1
  3. First impressionStage 2
  4. TrustStage 3
  5. Offer and pathStage 4
  6. Friction in forms and checkoutStage 5
  7. Speed, mobile and accessStage 6
  8. After the clickStage 7

How it works

  1. Write down what the funnel does today

Pick one funnel and put real numbers on every step. A baseline you made up is worse than none.

  2. Run the forty checks

Score each one 0, 1 or 2 and write down what you saw. The worksheet tells you where to look.

  3. Read the Leak Map

See which segment is losing the most, and what that loss is worth in dollars.

  4. Pick the fixes

Rank them by impact, confidence and effort. Write three hypotheses. Plan ninety days.

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

For you if

You own a funnel with a clear goal, such as a signup, a lead or a purchase, and you can get into the analytics. Marketers, product managers, founders and agencies, mostly.

Not for you if

You want a list of button colors to test. There are plenty of those. This finds the problem first, and leaves the headline for later.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. You give us an email address and we send you the files. If you tick the box, we’ll also send you an email now and then. If you don’t tick it, you still get the files.

What do I need before I start?

Read access to your analytics, and one funnel with a clear goal, such as a signup, a lead or a purchase.

Do I need Excel?

No. The PDF works on its own. The scorecard workbook opens in Excel or Google Sheets and does the arithmetic for you.

Can I use it with clients?

Yes. Use it on your own work and on your clients’. Please don’t resell it or post it elsewhere. Send people to this page instead.

How do I print it?

The download includes a print-friendly version. It’s designed for US Letter paper. On A4, choose “Fit to page.”

What do you do with my email?

We send you the files. If you ticked the box, we also send occasional emails about articles, new free resources and any paid products. You can unsubscribe from any email. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

Is this professional advice?

No. It’s general information and education. It isn’t legal, financial, security or other professional advice, and it comes with no warranty and no promised result. Check anything important against your own situation.

Are the examples real?

No. The names, numbers and scenarios marked illustrative or composite are made up to show how it works. They aren’t benchmarks, and they aren’t anyone’s results.

Who made this?

Eddie Gear. It’s drawn from years of hands-on experience, and it names no clients, on purpose.

Find the leak before you fix the headline.
