How does Scribe SEO work?

Scribe SEO is a client/server set up that transmits the various parts of content (title, body, meta description, etc.) to remote servers. These servers then analyze and evaluate the transmitted content before generating helpful feedback.

The feedback includes a detailed analysis of keywords, backlinks, anchor texts, and other parts of content, plus tips on how to adjust each for better search engine visibility.

Scribe SEO uses the plugin technology. And presently, the Scribe SEO plugin is available on the WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal platforms.

To get the analysis results, all the fields must be duly filled and the “analyse” button clicked.

A general overview of the results is presented as a percentage score and a checklist. However, more information on keywords, links, content, and how to improve them (if need be) can be found by clicking on the various tabs on the Scribe SEO pop-up window.

Scribe SEO also helps in off-page optimization. It adds your pages to other sites within your niche. It also helps to build links between various pages and content of your website (or blog).

Besides, Scribe SEO promotes your site on social media by searching for users who may be interested in reading and sharing your content – on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Google+

In simpler terms, here’s a list of what Scribe SEO does to your content:

  • Checks whether your title is of the right length and optimized your target keywords
  • Checks whether your meta description is of the right length and optimized for your target keywords
  • Checks whether your content has the right keyword density (i.e. whether your keywords appear in your content body the right number of times)
  • Scans your content to find out your target keywords and suggests how you can tweak your content, title, and meta to reflect them.

Note that Scribe SEO won’t help improve the quality of your content. It only helps to make your content more SEO-friendly. And it really delivers on that one function – pretty well, I must admit.

How is Scribe SEO used?

That’s very easy. Just install it the same way you install any other WordPress plugins (I’m sorry for assuming that you’re using WordPress). And you’re good to go! It’s quite user-friendly; you won’t have to contact support or visit Yahoo answers to get help.

After the installation, write your new post and fill the required title, keyword, and description fields.

Once you’re done, hit the analyze tab, and you’ll get a percentage score and a checklist of recommendations.

Adjust your content in line with the recommendations until you get an excellent score. But 100% is what you should strive for.

How much does Scribe SEO cost?

Scribe SEO is made available in four different subscription packages – Starter, Publisher, Professional, and Advanced.

  • The Starter plan costs $17 per month (for 15 evaluations and 35 keyword searches)
  • The Publisher plan costs $27 per month (for 30 evaluations and 70 keyword searches)
  • The Professional plan costs $47 per month (for 120 evaluations and 280 keyword searches)
  • The Advanced plan costs $97 per month (for 300 evaluations and 700 keyword searches)

Scribe SEO Review: Its Pros

  • It’s a perfect tool for on-page search engine optimization
  • It’s a great keyword research tool
  • It’s very user-friendly and suitable for newbies
  • It gives helpful recommendations on how you can tweak your content for attracting more traffic while not compromising on the quality of the content

Scribe SEO Review: Its cons

  • Scribe SEO (in my own opinion) forces you to dwell on on-page optimization more than necessary. The recommended tweaks may deprive your content – or part of it – of its free, natural flow.
  • Scribe SEO is somewhat expensive
  • Scribe does not guarantee results.

And now, my take on Scribe SEO

After trying the Scribe SEO plugin, I concluded that it’s not worth it’s price (to me). While it may be a very good tool for newbies, it’s of little use to people like me – those who already know much about the dynamics of search engine optimization.

Before installing the plugin, I’d already successfully optimized posts that are ranking high in Google’s listings – not necessarily by obeying the rules of Scribe SEO. And I’m sure I could repeat that feat whenever I wanted, without the support of Scribe SEO.

As for the price, I think it falls a bit on the high side. Actually, I never expected Copyblogger to offer such a tool free. But I think it should cost less than it currently does.

The keyword evaluation function is crap. It assumed (erroneously) that I was optimizing for only one-word keywords and listed no phrases of 2-4 words in the keyword list. My target key phrases comprise three words each. And Scribe SEO listed none of them among the keywords found within my content – even when I’d repeated the phrases a good number of times. So, Scribe SEO failed woefully in that regard.

Finally, I think SEO Scribe is a bit over hyped. It comes across as the only tool needed for guaranteed search engine visibility – but it’s not. And that’s because it dwells more or on-page SEO and offers less help to off-page SEO, which really carries more weight.

Please note that I’ve not written off Scribe SEO as useless or being a scam. No, I’ve not. Here’s a summary of my thoughts about it:

  • I think it’s not all that useful for SEO-savvy webmasters, but it sure would greatly help newbies
  • I think it’s a bit expensive (for a start, a newbie can choose the Starter plan, which is the cheapest)
  • The keyword evaluation function failed to pick my target key phrases. It analyzed my content for single words only
  • Contrary to what a first-timer would be made to think, Scribe SEO is not all that is needed for increased search engine visibility. In fact, it does less than 40% of what this entails.

Aside the areas in which it flopped, Scribe SEO delivered perfectly in other areas, especially in the on-page SEO function.

Should you go for Scribe SEO, after all?

Well, that depends on you. If you already know everything – or much – about on-page SEO, I don’t think you need Scribe SEO – except you’d like to be double sure you’ve done things right before hitting the “publish” button.

But if you’re a beginner, and you know very little about SEO (especially on-page SEO), Scribe SEO would help you greatly. It would pass for a good SEO instructor and an assistant content editor.

Only go for Scribe SEO if you’re fully aware of its capabilities. It won’t push your post to the first page in Google. No, it won’t. But it can help you adjust your content for better visibility – which, of course, still hinges on other weightier factors.

Is there a better Scribe SEO alternative?

Sincerely, I don’t know of any for now. There may be one out there, but I don’t know. So, if you’re a beginner and you think you really need Scribe SEO, I’d advise you just go for it. The cheapest plan, I mean.

How can you get Scribe SEO?

You can choose your preferred plan and make your payment at the official website. But to get a discount off the price, you can get a Scribe SEO promo code.

To get a Scribe SEO promo code, you can Google the words “Scribe SEO promo code”, and follow the links on the results page.

Bottom line

Now, I’ve shared with you everything I’ve learned in this Scribe SEO Review, as well as everything I think about it. This review may not seem as nice as you’d expected, but I only tried to be as fair as possible.

No doubt, you’ll come across other reviews online that are different from this – reviews praising the product. Note that many positive reviews are published by affiliates in order to get people to buy the products they’re marketing.

As for me, I believe on laying the truth bare. And that’s what I just did in this Scribe SEO Review. Note that I didn’t blatantly discourage anyone from buying Scribe SEO, but I didn’t hide any of its shortcomings, either.

In case you have any questions I didn’t answer in the post, or you disagree with me on something, let’s rub minds in the comments.

  1. Eddie, Thanks for such an honest review, I was curious about Scribe, but I am very savvy when it comes to SEO also (I work at a top 10 search agency). I have a similar (and free) plugin installed called InboundWriter (I promise I don’t work for them or anything). I rarely have ever used it, but I think it would be great for a newbie that wants to check out Scribe and is unhappy about its price. Just a recommendation for something your readers may want to check out.

    • Hello Paul. Good to hear that you work for a top seo firm. Its always good to be able to know what to do for your website. I will take a look at the tool you mentioned, and I am sure my readers would check it out as well. Thanks for stopping by. Do share with us some excellent SEO tips.

  2. That’s a pretty thorough review Eddie.

I actually used this one when it was first introduced but I think at that time it was more over my head so I didn’t keep the monthly subscription. I confess to purchasing things and doing my best to understand how they work and failing miserably which is why it’s safe to say that not every product is for everyone.

It’s a good one though. I use a different paid plug-in for checking SEO in my posts but that’s about all I can handle.

    • Thanks Adrienne, Appreciate that. I can understand how plugins can be at times. But to be honest with you, I’ve learned what best works for me and small businesses so I can make recommendations only from purchasing and actually using the product in my work. This helps me really understand the benefits and how long it takes for the tool to start benefit the blogger. After over 7 years of blogging, today I can tell what tools are essentially required and what you can completely ignore. What is the SEO tools you use for your blog?

  3. Do they still offer the starter plan? I was looking at their site and could not find the starter plan. The cheapest they have is for $97/month with a money back guarantee.

    • Hey Mario, It looks like they have changed their pricing strucutre and they no longer offer the starter pack. The lowest price offering is at $97. However, you can try it for free for a while, before you buy. So you know if its worth the investment.

  4. Thanks for your reply Eddie. I contact customer support and they said that after the new version came out, they increased their price and no longer off the starter package.

  5. I am regular reader, how are you everybody? This post

with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very
good success. If you know of any please share. Appreciate
    it!

  9. I recently bought Scribe and after optimizing a few posts I am not too impressed with it. I think the pricing has changed since this post because I’m paying $97/month.

I’m going to be cancelling as there is really nothing with Scribe that I can’t do by myself.

The keyword research function is terrible and the external link compatibility doesn’t seem to work at all for me.

Nice post and it helped cement my feelings.
